Products Description
Gabion baskets are engineered as rectangular containers fabricated from double-twisted hexagonal steel wire mesh. To enhance structural integrity, each unit incorporates a selvedge of heavier gauge wire along the edges and internal diaphragms that divide the basket into uniform cells. Supplied in flat-packed form, the units are easily assembled on-site, positioned precisely, and filled with durable stones to create a solid, flexible structure. Their modular design allows for seamless integration across a wide range of civil, geotechnical, and architectural applications, adapting efficiently to site-specific requirements.

FEATURES OF GABION BASKET

Flexible Yet High-Strength:
The double-twisted hexagonal steel wire mesh structure offers exceptional flexibility and tensile strength, allowing it to withstand significant loads without breaking or cracking. When properly constructed, a gabion basket can remain structurally sound and maintenance-free for several decades.

Durable:
Gabion basket structures made from galvanized wire offer excellent longevity and corrosion resistance. At CHG METAL, we provide a range of protective coating options-including PVC, Galfan + PVC, and PA6 (polyamide 6)-to further extend the service life of the mesh in even the most demanding environments.

Modular:
Gabion basket units are delivered as flat-packed panels, making transportation efficient and cost-effective. On-site assembly is quick and straightforward, requiring no additional construction materials such as mortar or concrete. This modular system allows for flexible installation in a wide range of environments.
Production Process
We follow a rigorous and standardized process to ensure the strength, durability, and precision of every gabion basket we manufacture:
1. Raw Material Selection
We use high-quality low-carbon steel wire with various surface treatments such as hot-dip galvanizing, PVC coating, or Galfan coating, selected according to the required corrosion resistance.
2. Wire Drawing
Steel wire is drawn to the required diameter using precision machinery to ensure uniformity, smooth surface finish, and optimal tensile strength.
3. Mesh Weaving
The drawn wire is processed through automatic double-twisted hexagonal mesh machines. This structure enhances flexibility and prevents the mesh from unraveling even when damaged.
4. Mesh Cutting & Panel Formation
The woven mesh is cut into required panel sizes. Diaphragms are added at specific intervals to create internal cells, ensuring even distribution of rock fill and structural stability.
5. Edge Reinforcement
All mesh edges are reinforced with a thicker selvedge wire to increase frame strength and resistance to deformation.
6. Assembly & Folding
Panels are assembled into rectangular basket shapes and pre-folded into compact flat packs for efficient transport and storage.
7. Quality Inspection
Each batch undergoes strict dimensional checks, coating adhesion tests, and mesh opening size inspection to meet international quality standards.

Installation
◆ Gabion basket installation is straightforward and does not require heavy machinery. Begin by preparing the foundation-level the ground, compact the soil if needed, and lay geotextile fabric to prevent soil erosion and improve stability.
Unfold the flat-packed gabion baskets and place them in the desired position. Use lacing wire, C-rings, or spiral binders to connect all vertical and horizontal joints, ensuring the structure is square and rigid. For baskets longer than 1 meter, install internal diaphragms to divide them into uniform cells.
◆ Fill each compartment with clean, hard stones (100–200 mm), placing them carefully to reduce gaps and maintain the basket's shape. Once filled, close the lid and secure it tightly. For retaining wall applications, stack additional layers in an interlocked pattern, and tie adjacent and vertical baskets together for added strength.

Applications of Gabion Baskets
Gabion baskets are widely used in civil engineering, landscaping, and erosion control due to their durability, permeability, and flexibility. Common applications include:
● Retaining Walls – For slope stabilization and earth retention in infrastructure and landscaping projects
● Riverbank & Shoreline Protection – To prevent erosion and absorb hydraulic energy in water channels
● Slope Protection – To reinforce embankments and prevent landslides or surface runoff
● Bridge Abutments & Road Protection – To protect structural foundations from water and soil movement
● Architectural & Landscape Design – As aesthetic features such as benches, fences, planters, and decorative walls
● Flood Control & Culvert Structures – Used as energy dissipation structures and flow control barriers

FAQ
Q: 1. What is Gabion Basket?
A: Gabion basket is a structure made of hexagonal woven wire mesh, usually filled with stones or gravel. It is widely used in civil and environmental engineering for erosion control, slope stabilization, and retaining structures. Its flexibility, permeability, and durability make it ideal for rivers, roads, and landscaping.
Q: 2. Applications of Gabion Basket
A: Riverbanks, reservoirs, and coastal erosion control Slope stabilization and landslide protection Highway and railway embankment reinforcement Bridge abutment and culvert protection Garden retaining walls and landscape decoration Military and noise barrier walls (e.g., Hesco barriers)
Q: 3. Gabion Basket Production Process
A: Wire Preparation: Drawing, galvanizing, or PVC coating of low-carbon steel wire Mesh Weaving: Gabion basket is woven by specialized machines Cutting & Forming: Cut to size and folded into panels for box formation Edge Binding & Reinforcement: Manual or machine twisted edges for added strength Quality Inspection: Tests for mesh size, tensile strength, coating thickness, and anti-corrosion Packing & Shipping: Folded and bundled, typically shipped with pallets or wooden crates
Q: 5. Which is better for gabion basket: hand-twisted edges or machine-twisted edges?
A: Hand-twisted edges have tighter knots and provide a stronger structure, making them ideal for projects with high durability and load requirements, especially in harsh environments. However, they come with higher costs and longer production times. Machine-twisted edges offer higher production efficiency and lower costs, suitable for large-volume projects with moderate strength needs, though their strength and durability are slightly lower than hand-twisted edges. If your project demands high strength and durability, hand-twisted edges are recommended. If cost and production speed are more important and the environmental conditions are less severe, machine-twisted edges are a more economical choice.
